Before we do the caption me - I've been meaning to post this. Before August is completely behind us - here it is:
Did you know ... that the phrase "the dog days of summer" refers to the placement of Sirius, the largest star in the Canis Major ("big dog") constellation, in the night sky?
For most of July and August, Sirius rises and sets in coordination with the sun, and the ancient Romans believed that the brightness of Sirius - added to that of the sun - was responsible for the warmer weather.
We now know that the earth's tilt is responsible for the change in seasons, but the old expression has persisted nonetheless.
Here is a caption me photo - What is the little dog telling the big dog?....

One Pair of Hands
This song was claimed to have been found in the archives of Elvis Presley.
Whether this is indeed an Elvis Presley song or not, I thought this was a great time to share this with you.
I thought the timing might also be good, as so many of our PJ team could use an uplifting hand, or 2.

Wednesday's funny - About the Ocean
Children Writing About the Ocean.
The next time you take an oceanography course, you will be totally prepared.
1) - This is a picture of an octopus. It has eight testicles. (Kelly, age 6 )
2 ) - Oysters' balls are called pearls. (Jerry, age 6)
3) - If you are surrounded by ocean, you are an island. If you don't have ocean all round you, you are incontinent. (Mike, age 7)
4) - Sharks are ugly and mean, and have big teeth, just like Emily Richardson. She's not my friend any more. (Kylie, age 6)
5) - A dolphin breaths through an asshole on the top of its head. (Billy, age 8)
6) - My uncle goes out in his boat with 2 other men and a woman and pots and comes back with crabs. (Millie, age 6)
7) - When ships had sails, they used to use the trade winds to cross the ocean. Sometimes when the wind didn't blow the sailors would whistle to make the wind come. My brother said they would have been better off eating beans. (William, age 7)
8) - Mermaids live in the ocean. I like mermaids. They are beautiful and I like their shiny tails, but how on earth do mermaids get pregnant? Like, really? (Helen, age 6)
9) - I'm not going to write about the ocean. My baby brother is always crying, my Dad keeps yelling at my Mom, and my big sister has just got pregnant, so I can't think what to write. (Amy, age 6)
10) - Some fish are dangerous. Jellyfish can sting. Electric eels can give you a shock. They have to live in caves under the sea where I think they have to plug themselves in to chargers. (Christopher, age 7)
11) - When you go swimming in the ocean, it is very cold, and it makes my willy small. (Kevin, age 6)
12) - Divers have to be safe when they go under the water. Divers can't go down alone, so they have to go down on each other. (Becky, age 8)
13) - On vacation my Mom went water skiing. She fell off when she was going very fast. She says she won't do it again because water fired right up her big fat ass. (Julie, age 7)
14) - The ocean is made up of water and fish. Why the fish don't drown I don't know. (Bobby, age 6)
15) - My dad was a sailor on the ocean. He knows all about the ocean. What he doesn't know is why he quit being a sailor and married my mom. (James, age 7)
From the mouths of babes. I hope at least some of these made you smile.

SHOW AND TELL WEDNESDAYS
These blog ideas were sent in by Sue Ann, from SamsFurkids.etsy.com .
I just love this one.
I just love this breed too. A Briard. really does look like a boy in a dog suit. LOL: A golden retriever has become something of a local celebrity in China for his habit of guarding his owner’s bicycle. Luo Wencong does not need to buy a bike lock as his dog, Li Li, keeps such a close eye on his two-wheeler. Locals in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Province, has renamed Li Li ‘Bike Hugging Dog’ because of his unusual habit. Lua says Li Li is so clever that he can also count, carry baskets of shopping and take out the rubbish. “Whenever I park up my bike, he wraps his forelegs around it to prevent it from being stolen,” he said. “He’s such a clever dog. I talk with him all the time, and he understands me quite well.”Li Li also helped with the shopping and took out the rubbish every night, taking it downstairs and to a bin 200 metres away. “Someone once offered me 10,000 Yuan (£1,000) to buy him, but I refused,” added Luo. Thanks Sue Ann. Diana www.DianaDesignsNY.etsy.com www.StylinDogsBoutique.esty.com

GAME STOP WEDNESDAY
It's time for a little contest.
And now for the contest -- --

HERE'S THE PICTURE:
Try to be as specific as possible. If more than one of you guess correctly, we will draw the winner from a hat.
Please convo your answer to either: www.StylinDogsBoutique.etsy.com or www.DianaDesignsNY.etsy.com
Or email me at StylinDogsBtq@aol.com
Anyone is welcome to play. You have until midnight PST Wed, June 6th.
Good luck. :-)
Winner will be announced here, Thursday morning. Thanks for playing.
Diana

www.DianaDesignsNY.etsy.com
And the answer is - a Candy Striper dress! It will have an apron with a red cross and a hat.
There were a number of correct guesses so I put your names in a cup, and John (aka Babalou) picked - and the winner is --- (it is first thing in the morning and my voice sounds like a bullfrog. )
But first - an excerpt from my calendar for the month of
June. -- Calendar called Shih Tzu puppies from BrownTrout Publishers.
“Did you know … that having a close relationship with your
puppy may not only make you happier and more active, but may also provide
direct health benefits? Studies have
shown that petting a dog can have the effect of reducing blood pressure even
hours after the initial action, and that pet owners who suffer from serious
illnesses (e.g. heart attacks) survive longer than those who do not own pets.
One possible explanation is that heart attack victims are more motivated to recover
because they know that their dogs depend on them.
And now for the contest -- --
Below is a picture showing the pieces of something I am making.
If you can guess what I am making, or come the closest,
you win a machine embroidered bookmark, similar to these.
HERE'S THE PICTURE:
Materials include:
Pink and white striped fabric
White fabric
Velcro
Elastic
6 White buttons
and Red Felt
Try to be as specific as possible. If more than one of you guess correctly, we will draw the winner from a hat.

Wednesday - Show and Tell
Now for a cute video, sent to me by Sue Ann, from SamsFurKids.etsy.com
This wolf-stalking video was uploaded by a YouTuber named "LifeIsQuick," but there's nothing fast-paced about the way the dog in the clip ca-a-a-a-refully and qui-i-i-etly sneaks up on her prey. Although Rasta may consider herself to be part Vizsla, part ninja, she has no idea that she's tracking a wolf statue that's been placed on a golf course. "Can you imagine what the dog is thinking?" one YouTube commenter asks. "'Wow, my stealth skills are elite! That wolf won't know what hit hi -- oh, wait, WTF?!'" It's OK, Rasta. We're laughing with you. WITH YOU.
