Unconditional Love
After a mother chimpanzee who lived in a zoo died, one of the zoo's employees took the baby chimp home to care for it. It never crossed his mind that his dog, who had recently given birth would adopt the chimp and raise it with her pups. Judging by the look on her face at times, she is not quite sure why this particular offspring has hands to grab her with.
Now that portrays unconditional love. Something to think about!!!!!

Tips on bathing your dog
2. Before starting an indoor bath, make sure the house is warm. Turn up the thermostat a few degrees if necessary. Do your prep work and have everything ready ahead of time; you don't want to be scrambling for shampoo or a towel while you're trying to wash the dog.
3. Start by combing and brushing out all mats. Otherwise, the water will turn the mats into solid masses, which will require clippers to remove. If your dog's hair is matted with paint, tar or some other sticky material, trim with clippers or soak the area with vegetable or mineral oil for 24 hours. (Consult a professional groomer for especially difficult tangles.)
4. Prep your dog. Put a drop of mineral oil in the eyes to protect them from suds. Some people use cotton balls in the ears. If you use cotton balls, make sure they're the right size for your dog's ears; if they're too small, they may slip down the ear canal. Be very gentle with your dog's delicate ears and don't push the cotton down further than can be easily retrieved.
5. Bathe your dog as quickly as possible to make the process less annoying for both of you. Be thorough and do a good cleaning, but whether you're using an indoor tub or shower or washing him in the yard, do it as quickly as possible. Make sure to dry your dog immediately. Use a good pet chamois, lots of big soft towels, or a hair dryer set to a low setting.
(If you don't dry him, he will "shake off" all the water on you, your house or anything nearby!)

Happy New Year!
I was looking for a picture to communicate putting 2011 behind me and that would also express my hope for the upcoming year. I came across the photo above and thought it was absolutely perfect. The editorial that went with the photo spoke to me, also, as a wonderful approach to dealing with the old and looking forward to the new. Please take a minute to read it by clicking here. Our team members have had their share of ups and downs this past year, but I think we have all become so much closer as a result. I, for one, lost my husband of 25 years to colon cancer on Valentine's Day. Its been a struggle, its been devastating and unbearable at times, but with the help and support of my family and my friends on PetsJubilee, and elsewhere, I've managed to survive the last 11 months and become a little bit stronger over time. My husband always liked to say, "what doesn't kill me, makes me stronger", and I try to look at the difficult times like hurdles to be dealt with and conquered. I try to find the silver lining in all things and believe that everything happens for a reason. I'm a glass half full type of person. I pray everyday and give thanks for all that I have in my life. Being this type of person allows me to embrace the New Year and grow stronger and wiser from the lessons learned during the old year. So,
Shari

Share your Christmas story
When our dog Huxley, a black lab/German shepherd mix, passed away, my brother and sister and I decided to do something special. We were young but I had some money from tutoring and babysitting, and we searched and finally found Golden Retriever puppies that would be ready to adopt for Christmas.
We brought the puppy home Christmas Eve and hid him downstairs, hoping he would not bark. (Of course we were down there with him most of the night.) But he was so good, and did not bark.
The following morning, Christmas morning, after we opened all of our gifts, we said, “Oh, there is one more” We went downstairs and put the puppy in the wrapped box we had all ready with a big red bow on top, and placed the puppy inside.
We put the box on his lap and the box began to move and of course he thought it was a joke gift. When the puppy popped his head up and out of the box! A beautiful, dark gold, adorable puppy.
Well my father had no words…. He picked up the puppy and walked out of the house....
You see, he was too choked up to speak, and not being an emotional man, did not want us to see him crying.
He wanted to call him Chips, but as this was our very first pedigree we needed a sir name for the official papers. :-)
(This is not Chips, but looks a lot like him)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please, before getting any type of pet as a gift for someone else, do consider the following:
The decision to add a new pet to the family needs to be a carefully considered one, not an "impulse purchase." A dog, in particular, is a long-term commitment, not just a Christmas morning puppy thrill.
If you and your family really want a dog, that's great! Just make sure that they are ready for this commitment, and take your time when it comes to choosing a puppy, or any pet. After all, he's going to be a family member for a long time.
---------------------------------------------------------------
We knew my Dad wanted a new dog, and knew he would accept this new addition.
I don't think we expected such an emotional response though. :-)
Do you have a favorite Christmas story you would like to share?

ANGELPUPS & CUPCAKE TINS~
Some time ago, a post was done here on Petsjubilee by a fellow PJ Sista ;-) about keeping your pups (and other pets) active both physically and mentally. It was accompanied by a short video of a dog finding treats hidden under balls in a cupcake tin. It was such a neat idea I decided to try it with my three: Big Mac, Molly and Moxie....
Not a lot of baking gets done at our house, we like to do our baking at the grocery store, but I did manage to dig up three old twelve cup muffin tins. I found as many balls as I could (okay, I knew I would be doing this so while I was out baking, I stopped by the dog toy aisle and got some new balls...;-), I ended up with twelve balls. I placed treats in four of the cupcake spots and covered them all with balls. I know this isn't exactly how the game is done but I didn't have 36 balls and thought less than four treats each wouldn't be much of a game.
I'll let you decide if the puppies had fun. As always, forgive the high-pitched baby voice...goes with the puppy territory. The Boston accent I can do nothing about.....
Have a fantastic Monday, All~
God Bless~

Puppy Size~
Puppy Size
This is one of the neatest stories you will ever hear. You will know precisely what this little girl is talking about at the end (you'll want to share this one with your loved ones and special friends)!
'Danielle keeps repeating it over and over again. We've been back to this animal shelter at least five times. It has been weeks now since we started all of this,' the mother told the volunteer.
'What is it she keeps asking for?' the volunteer asked.
'Puppy size!' replied the mother.

'Well, we have plenty of puppies, if that's what she's looking for..' 'I know..... We have seen most of them, ' the mom said in frustration...
Just then Danielle came walking into the office
'Well, did you find one?' asked her mom.
'No, not this time,' Danielle said with sadness in her voice. 'Can we come back on the weekend?'
The two women looked at each other, shook their heads and laughed
'You never know when we will get more dogs. Unfortunately, there's always a supply,' the volunteer said.
Danielle took her mother by the hand and headed to the door. 'Don't worry, I'll find one this weekend,' she said.
Over the
next few days both Mom and Dad had long conversations with her. They both felt she was being too particular. 'It's this weekend or we're not looking any more,' Dad finally said in frustration.'We don't want to hear anything more about puppy size, either,' Mom added.
Sure enough, they were the first ones in the shelter on Saturday morning . By now Danielle knew her way around, so she ran right for the section that housed the smaller dogs.
Tired of the routine, mom sat in the small waiting room at the end of the first row of cages. There was an observation window so you could see the animals during times when visitors weren't permitted.

Danielle walked slowly from cage to cage, kneeling periodically to take a closer look.. One by one the dogs were brought out and she held each one.
One by one she said, 'Sorry, but you're not the one.'
It was the last cage on this last day in search of the perfect pup. The volunteer opened the cage door and the child carefully picked up the dog and held it closely. This time she took a little longer.
'Mom, that's it! I found the right puppy! He's the one! I know it!' She screamed with joy. 'It's the puppy size!'

'But it's the same size as all the other puppies you held over the last few weeks,' Mom said.
'No not size... The sighs. When I held him in my arms, he sighed,' she said. 'Don't you remember? When I asked you one day what love is, you told me love depends on the sighs of your heart. The more you love, the bigger the sigh!'
The two women looked at each other for a moment. Mom didn't know whether to laugh or cry. As she stooped down to hug the child, she did a little of both.
'Mom, every time you hold me, I sigh. When you and Daddy come home from work and hug each other, you both sigh. I knew I would find the right puppy if it sighed when I held it in my arms,' she said. Then, holding the puppy up close to her face, she said, 'Mom, he loves me. I heard the sighs of his heart!'
Close your eyes for a moment and think about the love that
makes you sigh. It's not only found in the arms of our loved ones, but in the caress of a sunset, the kiss of the moonlight and the gentle brush of cool air on a hot day…
They are the sighs of God. Take the time to stop and listen; you will be surprised at what you hear. 'Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.'
We hope your life is filled with Sighs!!!
