An Unexpected 4 Legged Drop In

I cannot have cats where I live. So I content myself with making things for cats and that are cat-themed. But God must know how I feel at times, because twice in the last month I have had visitors. I have no screen on my back door so I often  leave it open for a breeze. Here is my interpretation of what happened several days ago.

*****

Hmmmm.....what is this? An open door? I must investigate. Oh - Oh...an itch. Must scratch...ahhhhh.

Isn't this nice. A cozy cushy. Smells OK. Don't sense any other occupants of the fur nature. I'll make sure to give it quite a few rubs and leave some pretty black hairs.

AhHA! There IS another cat here! Why....but wait.  It's only a fake. HA! Fooled me. I'll just check out the rest of this place. Not very big at all. Nice lady though. She gave me some good belly rubs and talked very respectfully as she held a funny silver thing in her face.

I'm feeling a bit hungry. Nice pad, but no treats. Toodles my friend. I may be back.
(Moseys into the yard where he immediately finds a plump grasshopper for a snack.)

******

I hope I get some more visitors!

Interesting Dog Facts Part 4

A dog’s mouth exerts 150-200 pounds of pressure per square inch … with some dogs exerting up to 450 pounds per square inch.

More than 5,000,000 puppies are born in the U.S. every year. More than 1 in 3 American families own a dog.

The Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts both offer merit badges in dog care.

The world's smallest dog is the Chihuahua, which means "tiny dog in the sky."

Dogs and cats, like humans, are either right or left handed.

Bingo is the name of the dog on the Cracker Jack box.

Vesuvius Day

Today is Vesuvius Day. It marks the date in 79 A.D. that Mount Vesuvius exploded.
August 24, 79 A.D. was an historic date for the world. This was the day that Mount Vesuvius erupted in a huge explosion. It was one of the largest volcanic explosions in recorded history.
This deadly volcano destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabiae. They were buried by volcanic ash and pumice. An estimated 3,360 people died in the volcano's eruption.
Mount Vesuvius also exploded a second time in 1631. At that time, it killed approximately 3,500 people.

What a sad day. One day life all a bustle and full of sights and sounds and smells. And then....everything is quiet. It's all gone.

From Blue Ridge Studio:

It was estimated that the Roman city of Pompeii had 20,000 inhabitants at the time Mt. Vesuvius erupted and buried the city in ash in 79AD. Over time, as archaeologists excavated the site, they found voids in the ash and decided to pour plaster into the voids, to see what had been there. This photo is of a plaster cast, which was taken from one of those voids, a fallen resident of Pompeii.

Stunning Vesuvianite chunk--yes from Mt. Vesuvius--is embellished with a cascade of garnets on oxidized sterling silver. Sterling silver leverbacks. A gorgeous mix of past & present.

SHOW AND TELL TUESDAY

This was just too cute - check out the skate board at the end - I think that one is the best, and turn up the sound for some good feeling music:

So then I decided to look for more surfin videos. This one is a little long, but I loved the whole thing. It seems some of the bigger dogs even ride the actual surf.

Hope you liked my surfin fun.

Walk Your Dog & Saturday Pet Blogger Hop 8/20/11

Besides mealtime and treats, nothing excites Velvet more than when I get out the leash. She absolutely loves to go for walks and she acts like she enjoys car rides even though she whines the whole time we're in the car. I have to admit that a lot of times I get too busy and then too tired to take her out, but I want to start making the effort to do it more often. Walking with your furfriend can be a wonderful experience for both of you, as walking cures a multitude of maladies. Studies have shown that walking reduces stress, its a great way to lose weight, and it helps reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

Take the time to focus on your pet and your surroundings, clear your head. No cell phone, no music, just you, your dog and nature.

Fancy loves to walk with her favorite stuffy.

Interesting Dog Facts Part 3

Smaller breeds mature faster than larger breeds.

Dalmatian puppies are born completely white.

Boxers are so named because of their manner of playing with their front paws.

Basset Hounds are unable to swim.

If never spayed or neutered, a female dog, her mate, and their puppies could produce over 66,000 dogs in 6 years.

Like human babies, Chihuahuas are born with a soft spot in their skull which closes with age.

There is a saying:

We become like those who we spend the most time with.

Perhaps your friend has naturally curly hair. I guess that's not so bad. Curls are cool...until it gets humid, of  course.

And then there are the long, lanky ones with penetrating eyes who seem to look right through you. This can make others feel uncomfortable OR make them feel that you are really listening hard.  Make sure your friend is the  latter.

Sneaky. Sly. Always looking for that perfect opportunity to creep in and get the goods. I suppose if you are interested in solving crimes, then being a bit slinky and snoopy is a fine quality. But this is really reserved for a very few. So pick your pals carefully.

Now people....we all know there is a place in life for the unusual, out-of-the-ordinary. Like at the circus or house of horrors. If that is your aspiration - then go for it, honey! If not - I suggest you spend time with someone a bit more palatable to society.

Like this one! We all like to make others laugh and to be the life of the party. So picking a jovial companion is a great idea! Can't go wrong with this one!

Do you think you look  like your dog?
