The Saturday Pet Bloggers Hop community is sponsoring a "Pay It Forward Pet Bloggers Blog Hop" today (9/3/11) where the participants blog about their passion as it relates to animals or pets. As it turned out, my passion actually fit with this month's contest theme.

I would love for EVERY furbaby to find a home. To me, Petfinder.com and the Petfinder Foundation do an excellent job of introducing us to all of the wonderful animals who are in need of a home. SO, for every entry we receive in our pet photo contest, I will post a link to a furbaby in need of a human. Then, I would ask everyone to tweet, facebook, blog, or whatever form of promotion that is at your disposal, the post to bring greater attention to homeless pets everywhere.

Money earned (less shipping costs and listing fees) from this month's sales of Petsjubilee boxes will be donated to the PetFinder Foundation where the Animal Planet's ROAR Campaign will match each donation, dollar for dollar to Rescue U. Adopt A Pet and Saturday Blog Hop 8/13/11

If you're looking for a new furfriend, I just came across this site. They have a lot of great information and a wonderful way to search for your new family member. You can search by type of animal or breed. They'll find a rescue near you.

From their site:
"Adopting a dog or cat from a humane society, an animal shelter, an SPCA, or a dog rescue or cat rescue group saves a life!"..."Adoption saves more than just the life of the pet you adopt. If you adopt from an animal shelter, you're making room for another dog or cat, or you're allowing other dogs or cats at the shelter to be kept for a longer period of time, giving them a better shot at being adopted. If you adopt from a humane society, an SPCA or a rescue organization, you're allowing that organization to rescue another dog or cat for adoption at a public shelter, which, of course, saves the life of that little guy plus the lives of others at that shelter by creating space so new pets can be kept longer. As you can see, adoption is truly a continuous cycle of saving lives and it's the right thing to do!"

Looking for a new home...

This was emailed to me on 7/25/11, so I don't have an update on their status, but per the email I received:

Their current owner has to find homes for them because of her current housing situation changing. She loves both of these dogs very dearly and is heartbroken over not being able to keep them. She would prefer that they stay together, but they can be separated if necessary. First is Ozzy, he is a 4 year old Toy Fox Terrier. He is very intelligent and loving. The other one is Brandy, she is a 6 year old Papillon. Brandy is also very loving and funny. Both are housebroken, up to date on all of their shots, and spayed/neutered.

They currently live in the Dayton, Ohio area, i believe. If you are interested in adopting them or have any questions, email me at petsjubilee@live.com and I will contact the sender of the email.

This just breaks my heart. Please help if you can. Thank you :)

"We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave, ..." My husband use to sing that when the temperature went above 10 degrees in the winter. It seems like a very appropriate song for this past week and on into next week. My ac broke down last night, so I'm singing the blues. Help is on the way. Hope your weekend is great and that you're all staying cool.

Saturday Blog Hop 5/14/11 & A Story about a Cat & the winner of our blog giveaway

Gail of BritmericaLaneHandcrafts entered our photo contest last month with videos of Teddy and Snowball. We emailed back and forth quite a bit about Snowball. I thought it was a great story and wanted to share it with you:

Snowball spent over a year outside as a feral cat. When we saw her out there, we would take a bowl of food and put it out in the open hoping she would find it. It was months before she would allow us to touch her. We fed her for 3-4 months before catching her in a trap to get her neutured.

Shortly after she was neutured, on a nasty rainy day, I put her bowl of food inside the door of our sunroom so that she had to come inside to get it. (This is a picture of her meeting Sooty, another of our cats). Snowball would sit in a potted plant that sat on a small pedestal, so she could see inside. After a few days I started to shut the door behind her which at first freaked her out.




After a while she got used to it until another rainy day, I just kept her inside and the rest is history - she has been in ever since and is now the happy cat.

Now she has been indoors for about a year.

She loves to play with HER toy - we have 4 cats and she is the only one who plays with that particular one. Teddy has other toys similar and she plays with those, it was strange, but it was like that exactly what she did -teach Snowball how to play.

All of our cats (and our dog Scruffy, who recently passed away at 15 yrs) were abandoned or, in the case of our other black cat Sooty, who, we think was born in the wild also.

It took a lot of patience and time with both of them - over a period of months - for us to get anywhere near them.

I don't think that Snowball will ever be a sociable cat - she runs and hides under the bed when our son and family - or anyone come to the house. Although, when we here on holiday, she did come out of hiding when the neighbour came over to feed them all.

Now, Snowball has turned into a bit of a baby who loves attention. At night she snuggles on my lap while I am watching TV - it is almost like holding a baby.


It was a really big day the first time she touched my hand with her nose through a small fence we have - just for a second, but that was the beginning - From then on, it was a lot of baby steps all the way until she has got to where she is now.
I just like to spread the word of what people throw out and what they (the people) are missing.
There is so much abuse of animals, especially these days, it seems.
