The Pooop Scoop: Doody'sTop Ten
Now, Doody's Top Ten.
Top 10 things that would happen if animals had been in the Chilean mine:
10. The cats would make the dogs sit in the corner. For at least the first week.
9 The mice would crawl out through cracks and rescue themselves!
8. After finally deciding they were going to come out of the corner, the retrievers would start bringing all the loose rocks to the center of the room.
7 The cairn terriers would then stand on said rock pile.
6. The doxies and chihuahuas would whizz all over it! (good thing they are short!)
5. In 86 degree heat, everyone would end up sprawled on their backs on the floor.
4. The pointers would keep trying to point at the ceiling.
3 .The Jack Russells would keep jumping to try to reach the ceiling ...constantly...every day...all day.
2. The cats would re establish dominance and make everyone sit in the corner while the rescuers came down. 1. The rescuers would descend and pass out from all the confined stinky dog breath and frito feet!

Poopscoop: football, change, dogs, and forgiveness????
The past few weeks, I have posted some not so nice things about the Eagles QB Micheal Vick. Like what they could do to him on the sidelines after a bad play, similar to what he did to his dogs. I have been thinking a lot about this. First, I broke my first rule which is not to wish harm on another. In doing so, although I of course did not act upon those thoughts, did wishing that make me almost as bad as him? That brings me to the concept of forgiveness. It is one I have always had a hard time understanding. Does the offending person have to ask for it? What does it really mean to forgive? I was told it mean not wishing bad to come to the person in question. Then I was thinking, is it up to me to forgive, or for the Guy upstairs? My husband and I were watching a game and I told him " All i want to hear is that he is sorry and can't believe what he did to those dogs" My husband, equally horrified by the events in Georgia, told me Vick had apologized and when I looked into the 60 Minutes interview (which I never bothered to watch since I was so disgusted) I found he said the exact things I wanted to hear. Not that that makes it OK by any stretch of the imagination mind you. This past weekend i saw another interview in which Vick said his life had been a lie, he was wearing a mask and Leavenworth was the best thing to happen to him. He spoke about how his life is changed now- for the better. He said he was brought up in dogfighting from the age of 8. My question is can a person change? I have seen it happen. Are some things unforgivable ? Is it my business to forgive him? Could i forgive anyway?I had an idea to write to him and ask him to visit our home and meet our dogs in person. Not only would they be a great judge of his character, but he could see how we treat them as family , how Joe has a heart condition and gets meds and is a FRIEND. I would like to see the interaction and look into his eyes and see if there has been change. No press or anything, just private. What he did bothers me so much that I think that is the reason I need to know.It is said all things happen for a reason and perhaps he will become a tool of change for children that are being brought up in the situation he was. Ok, what I need now are your thoughts and opinions.

The Poop Scoop- Sasha and Oscar's Looooove Connection
Today we are going to highlight another team looooove connection. Yep, you have to say it like its spelled looooove connection! You all may have heard on the team forum about Sasha the wonder wiener and her beloved Oscar. Now I am sure we will all hope and Pray for poor little Oscars quick recovery!
I wonder what the wonder Wiener puppies would look like?
Here is what Athena told me about their romance and how it came about:
They met on an on-line doxie blog back when she was just a pup. It was puppy luv at first sight of his photo and she was quickly smitten at his romantic letters. Of course, it was all supervised at first since she was such a youngster and Oscar was a bit older and wiser wienie than her. But, he held her paw through the new discoveries of life and her first BBQ. She was a bit worried with all the talk about roasting hot dogs and all. But, he guided her through all the tough times (vet visits, trips to the groomers, and of course her OD on mushrooms) and was right by her side. Then, a couple years ago he purposed and of course she said yes, but they are now waiting for the economy to turn around and to save up enough to be able to afford a nice wedding on the mere kibble wages the two are earning. Then, of course recently, Oscar had to have back surgery and Sasha was oh so worried about that. She sent him get well smooches and FB messages. Now, she is wondering with the vet bills and all how they will ever afford the wedding. But, she holds firm that she is Oscar's beloved and no furry man will ever take his place.
I See, May December romances CAN work! Here's hoping to see another Wedding soon!
Oscar's Mommy does KritterKraze shop on etsy with all the doggy clay pins she makes by the way. Oscars Daddy does Woodnwonders shop, too.

The Poop Scoop: LOOOOOVE CONNECTIONS!

I have been hearing lately about some online love connections between several darling doggie couples! I would love to hear from anyone else about their pups or kitties online romances for future posts! Perhaps we can set up a website to hook up couples, but they may have trouble filling out the 'likability' forms- unless Sasha types for them.Friday, September 3, 2010

The Poop Scoop: Pet Water Fountains

I have tried numerous commercially available plastic fountains, only to have them get slimy as the plastic collects bacteria. Even with a filter. The design left a lot to be desired- most of the water flows over the top of the filter. It has an abundance of parts that are difficult to take apart. Also, the pumps go bad rather quickly.
Another important point to make is that plastic, especially made in China leaches harmful chemicals into the water, and some cats can get 'cat acne' from touching the bacteria laden plastic.
In researching a new fountain, I came across stainless steel. However these are made in China and the steel has been found not to hold up particularly well.
Then one day I came across an American company called Sierra BioScience, which makes a ceramic lead free American made bowl . The product name is Glacier Point for cats and comes in 2 sizes. What impressed me about this company is that the filter is of a higher quality and I don't have to worry about the possible petrochemicals leaching from the plastic. The units come equipped with a glass bottle and are capable of holding 4 of them to refill the filter.
One very important thing I noticed was that the designer /owner, Barry Farris, actually recommends purchasing vinegar in the glass bottles- the vinegar to use to clean the unit, and the bottle to reuse as a water supply source. He made the nozzles to fit the vinegar bottles and is not out to make money on selling people refill bottles! What a concept!Barry is also very involved with his customer service. He supplies you with his home phone number and email and responds to questions very quickly. He has well researched data on cats need for hydration as well as problems with plastic. He holds several patents. Here is what Barry had to say; "In a nutshell, me and my company are the exact opposite of the companies that design a product so it can be made cheaply and without any effort to built a better product and then ignore their customers. I started the company as a tribute to my departed wife who was a true cat lover. Attached is a picture of her and Muffy, one of her most favorite cats (note, picture could not be emailed due to my inefficiency at computer stuff). The inside family joke is that I have always been allergic to cats so living with a multi-cat lover for over 30 years and now taking care of her last cat, Jack, says something about me but I am not sure what." Barry FarrisSierra
BioScience http://www.glacierpointforcats.com/ There are several youtube videos to show the fountains in action (and the 'silver fox' that is Barry! LOL).

pump comparison
customer videos!
I really love this small American company. Barry is a doll too. I am very happy with my fountain, its ease of use and adjustable flow. Plus I feel so much better about the health consequences using one of these. It will be cheaper in the long run due to the durability of the parts and the replacement filter costs being much lower than that of other companies filters. They are very easy to set up and maintain. I got a large one in white and am considering adding a second for my second floor (you know how cats are!) The pets all loved it right away!if you would like to talk to Barry ask some questions, his website is above and he can also give you his phone number. Check it out!

The Poop Scoop: Bad News Bears

- opening car doors
- disengaging a brake
- honking for help
- carjacking
- beer preferences and opening cans
- safe canoe operation
- toilet paper usage
Ok I can admit the last 2 were obviously done by cartoon bears ( and we are not even going into all that Yogi has done through the years), but why would the bears be limited to anything? After mulling this over for some time now, I have come to a conclusion. Is it really so far fetched to think that 'SMOKEY' the Bear was actually responsible for a forest fire by a carelessly tossed cigarette and those PSA's were his community service? You don't see them so much anymore do you? So he must have completed his sentence. Seriously, though is cigarette smoking so hard to believe when they have video evidence off the examples above. What will all this lead to? 12 step programs for the ursine populace? Bear interventions? Cub lockups? Its quite obvious they know what they are doing and perhaps have been smarter than we knew all along and were just stringing us along at the zoo and circus to keep their crime sprees under wraps and non prosecutable . I think the proliferation of video cameras and camera phones is about to blow the lid off of this plot by the bears. But by then they will probably know how to use those too.
